I have known since I was a little girl that I wanted to be a teacher. And for almost 20 years, I have done just that.

About four years ago, I was so burned out from the 70+ hour work weeks, the constant barrage of standardized tests and the elimination of support and resources by the state legislators. My teaching philosophy no longer aligned with the school system I worked in.

I was terribly unhappy at work, feeling overworked, overwhelmed, underpaid and terribly unhappy in life, too. I barely saw my three boys, was never able to attend school parties or field trips and was exhausted after work. I realized that I needed a major change.

I reset my career and my family life. I wanted to be able to wake up and not dread going to work. I wanted to be able to be more involved with my kids’ school activities. I wanted to be able to spend more time with my family. I wanted work-life balance and I wanted to be happy.

A good friend approached me with an opportunity with Rodan + Fields and I thought, “Why not?”

I had obviously heard of these doctors who created the acne brand Proactiv. At the same time, I was approaching my 40th birthday and starting to notice fine lines and wrinkles. I decided to tackle both issues at once. I resigned from my stressful teaching position and started my own business as a skincare consultant with Rodan + Fields while taking care of my wrinkles.

It has been three-and-a-half years and I have never been happier. Because of my reset, I have actually been able to reignite my passion for teaching in two ways. First, by taking a lower-paying teaching position that I love. And second, by building my own R+F team, coaching and guiding them in their businesses. I have more confidence in myself as a teacher and an entrepreneur and more time for my family.
